Whether it’s land drainage, a soakaway run or a service trench, a mini digger makes light work of trenching — as long as you plan it properly.
How to dig a clean trench
- Mark the run and, critically, CAT-scan for buried services before breaking ground.
- Choose a bucket to match the pipe and bedding width.
- Dig to a consistent fall — use a laser level so water actually flows where you want it.
- Keep the spoil to one side, leaving room to lay pipe and backfill.
- Bed, lay and surround the pipe, then backfill and compact in layers.
Safety first: deep trenches can collapse — batter the sides or use trench support, and never work in an unsupported excavation. We hire mini diggers and can supply compaction kit too, delivered and collected across Norfolk & Suffolk. Get a quote.
