Digging Near Underground Services: CAT Scan First

The single most important rule of digging: know what’s underground first. Striking a buried cable or gas main is dangerous and expensive — and entirely avoidable.

Before you break ground

  1. Get hold of utility plans for the site where you can.
  2. Sweep the whole dig area with a CAT (cable avoidance tool) and Genny in power, radio and generator modes.
  3. Mark located services clearly on the surface.
  4. Hand-dig trial holes to confirm depth and position near anything detected.
  5. Keep machine digging well clear of marked services — dig by hand close to them.

We hire CAT scanners and Genny kits alongside our mini diggers — sort both in one go. Delivered and collected across Norfolk & Suffolk. Request a quote and dig with confidence.
